The Ssulzun panel analyzed the current ban on JYJ’s appearance on variety shows on major channels.
During August 7’s broadcast on JTBC’s Ssulzun, Kim Gura brought up the fact that JYJ’s brand commercial is being aired on major channels and said, “Through the commercials, I think they are hoping for people to question why they cannot appear on music programs and variety shows.”
Heo Ji Woong said, “They appear on dramas, but it’s still a big deal that a singing group cannot make appearance on music programs,” and Park Ji Yoon commented, “People were hoping for JYJ’s regular appearance on shows since the lawsuit settled in 2012, but the group is still not able to.”
Kang Yong Seok then said, “More than it being a legal restraint, it’s more like the ‘cartel of silence,’” and Heo Ji Woong said, “So in the case of JYJ, is SM Entertainment like Voldemort? A name that cannot be said?” causing laughter.
Kim Gura analyzed, “From the viewpoint of broadcasting companies, they cannot give up on SM’s numerous artists, like EXO, TVXQ, SNSD and f(x), just so they can allow the three members of JYJ to appear on their shows. This is like asking Korea’s trade department whether they will trade with China or Taiwan.”
About the fact that JYJ’s Kim Jae Joong and Park Yoo Chun are still making regular appearance on dramas, Kim Gura said, “The drama industry is enormous. No matter how powerful a company is, it cannot shake up the whole drama market.”
Park Ji Yoon added, “Broadcasting companies chose what benefits them more. But since JYJ’s is still popular across Asia market, there is no reason for dramas to reject their appearance.”
